Here at Plymouth Rock in NJ, we continue to be amazed by the people we work with. Plymouth Rock’s independent agents of New Jersey are an essential part of the Plymouth Rock family and are making impacts in their local communities every day. Through their volunteering and generous donations, the agents show they care about their local communities and well being of their neighbors.
We’d like to highlight the efforts of two very special employees at one of our partner agencies, ADP Statewide Insurance. After losing their children to cancer, James Colangelo and Rick Morello joined together along with their families to found the Family Reach Foundation in 1996. Starting the Foundation was important for James and Rick to help honor the memory of their children, Christopher Colangelo and Kristine Morello-Wiatrak. According to Mr. Morello, “The Foundation is a labor of love and means everything to us.”
The mission of Family Reach Foundation is to provide financial and heartfelt support to families fighting cancer. The Foundation’s primary focus is to help support families with young children battling a pediatric type of cancer. The funds raised by Family Reach are used to pay for expenses incurred during a patient’s treatment. Funds have
helped families pay for transportation to care centers, lodging, everyday bills that accumulate due to lost wages while parents are caring for their children, and much more. Mr. Morello says, “My daughter
Kristine saw the financial trials and tribulations that families go through during her time at Sloan Kettering
Hospital and wanted to help ease their burdens. Unfortunately she lost her battle to cancer, but through the Foundation we’ve honored her wishes.”
In 2003, ADP Statewide Insurance became very involved with the Foundation and has helped organize some of its most successful fundraisers, including Oldies Night to Remember, an annual dinner dance and Cooking Live in NYC.
Family Reach Foundation has helped hundreds of local families as well as families from across the country, and their hope is to help thousands in the next decade. To learn more about the families, read some of the Foundation’s special stories.
If you are able, please make a donation today to fill an immediate need for a family fighting cancer.
We are inspired by how the Colangelo and Morello families turned their own tragedies into hope. Given the recent devastation cause by Superstorm Sandy, we have a feeling there are many more inspirational stories of New Jersey residents helping their neighbors through these challenging times. We’d love to hear your stories on Twitter using #sandyforgiveness or on Facebook.
