Last updated on August 14th, 2017 at 01:31 pm

We asked our New Jersey Plymouth Rock Assurance Facebook fans: What are your favorite NJ diners? In any other state, this would be a two-second conversation. Not here.

As one Facebook commenter put it: “Growing up in Jersey I thought diners were everywhere. When I moved around I discovered other states did not have diners! What a shock that those states were missing out!”

In New Jersey this is serious business. Garden Staters know a thing or two about diners. After all, there are more than 600 diners in New Jersey – we’re the diner capital of the world.

  1. The Meadows Diner is good, but they didn’t need the addition of a sports bar to be good. Haven’t been to Seven Star since it stopped being Five Points Diner. The Lamp Post is excellent! It used to be a Charley Brown’s Steak house, but I’m glad it is doing well as a diner.

  2. The Point Diner
    Somers Point
    Snapper Soup, Mouska, Chicken Franchise, SOS, everything is fresh. Stuffed Flounder, Fresh Bluefish. Amazing!!;

  3. I LOVE that my favorite diner is second on the list! I also love that many more of local diners made this list too. I would like to add Legacy diner, white horse pike in Audubon. They make the grade.

      1. I would say you can’t go wrong at the Jefferson, the problem is the vast number of mouth watering dishes! You can’t make up your mind!

    1. The Summit diner is the oldest in NJ, started about 1923. But it is a long way from being top notch. It’s historic value is worth a visit. LEONARD

  4. I have found Tick Tock overly crowded and somewhat overrated. Both the Allwood and Nutley diners are superior and close by.

  5. Townsquare Diner route 15 Wharton , New Jersey has great new menu outdoor seating . Menu not like take the same old diner menu’ s.

  6. Tops Diner is rated #1 in the USA, not just New Jersey for very good reasons. It has the menu of a combined Italian, greek, American diner and superb euro style bakery all done to perfection. Few high end restaurants can match it for food, presentation, serving size, staff attention or ambiance. It’s only problem is its success: plan to go during off hours because at lunch and dinner hours the wait is never less than 15 minutes. It is pricey compared to other diners, but well worth it. Tops is the go-to restaurant for late nights in Newark.

  7. Mastoris Diner is not for the faint at heart. The portions are huge and the cheese bread and cinnamon bread is delicious. They also have a bakery to purchase their signature breads. You won’t go home hungry! Mangia

  8. State Street Grill Diner, Bloomfield, NJ.
It doesn’t look like diner looking. But, it provides huge portion and good price.

  9. How can you have a list that doesn’t have the Skylark Diner in Edison, NJ listed?!?
There doesn’t seem to be many listed in Central NJ aside from the Spinning Wheel in Lebanon as an honorable mention. Sorry, this is a poor list and missing a whole segment of NJ!

    1. I think you mean the Superior Diner in Perth Amboy. I lived 100 yards from it until I moved out of my parents house at age 21. I’m a fan of the Summit Diner and the Broadway Diner, both in Summit.

  10. Lamp Post for sure is # in my book… Meadows used to be the top for me but since Maria sold it ..it has gone down hill

    KEEP IT UP LAMPOST

love the dinner specials…soup, salad and a dessert with your meal plus all the bread you want ..can’t beat it

  11. I love State Street Grill Diner in Bloomfield. They have great prices and huge portions. Now in summer you can enjoy your meal in the roof top.
    I strongly recommend it

  12. Recommend Sand Castle Diner in Beachwood. Great specials every day and the servings are more than enough to handle. Best burgers are their credo!

  13. Andover Diner BY FAR is the best in New Jersey. Great food, service and menu items. The desserts are made on premises by the owner who takes great pride in his work and are delicious. The best diner in state and in the Sussex and Warren County area. Has the look of an old-fashioned diner and the servers are wonderful. You will not be disappointed when you go there.

  14. I have driven the 45 minutes just to hit the Jefferson Diner. Well worth it. I had stuffed cabbage the last time and a friend had the piergoies (Fairly sure) in a White wine, lemon, butter sauce.

  15. Alexis Diner on Rt 10 W in Denville is great. Just had the BEST soft shell crab sandwich there last week. All their food is really good.

  16. First of all, you misspelled ‘EsseX St.’ (But I digress.) You didn’t mention the Empire Diner on Rt. 46 in Parsippany! Great food there and great people serving it. You also missed the Jefferson Diner on Rt. 15 in Jefferson Twp. Their menu is longer than a phone book, and the food’s excellent too. Another fine diner is The Coach House on Rt. 4 east in Hackensack. Your list misses many northern NJ spots!!

  17. You missed Coach House in Jersey City/North Bergen

And only 4 out of 14 in North Jersey?
    Hmm……

    Whatever, cool list!

You got Pompton Queen, Awesome diner.

  18. I would like to add the Oakland Diner in Oakland NJ. Great food and lots of it. You couldn’t have a better staff.

  19. How could anyone fair to mention the State Line Diner , Rte. 17, Mahwah ? The food is great, fairly priced and the staff are friendly, polite and professional It is always filled to capacity, and often there is a wait. They make you comfortable and no one seems to mind. It is clean and one can check out the great desserts while waiting. You can see many regulars there and you feel welcomed and at home.

  20. Yes, the New Monmouth Diner rt. 35 in Middletown, NJ is the BEST Diner in NJ. If you leave not full, it’s your own fault. ask for Manny or Michael!! ps They line up for Sunday Brunch.

  21. As I grew up in Manasquan, my favorite is the Paramount Diner on Main Street. They serve breakfast and lunch only and there breakfasts are the best.

  22. The Penn Queen Diner in Pennsauken is a great place to eat. The food is very good and reasonably priced, the service is excellent.

  23. Mastori’s in Bordentown is also amazing. You DO want to buy their cheese bread…there’s a bakery on-site.

  24. The Silver Diner in Cherry Hill is amazing. On top of great food, service, and ambiance they do gluten free.
